  • A Straighter Smile

  • What Is Invisalign?

The Invisalign system was developed by Align Technology to give more options to older teenagers and adults who want to straighten their teeth but don't want to wear braces.

Invisalign clear aligners are made from a specially engineered plastic that's designed to fit comfortably over teeth while also being virtually invisible.

The soft material and smooth edges make Invisalign aligners feel more comfortable and can cause less irritation than braces.

    What Is Invisalign?
  • Invisalign vs Braces

    • Clear aligners are removable, making it easier to eat, drink and clean teeth compared with braces
    • Clear aligners straighten misaligned teeth
    • Clear aligners can sometimes cost more than braces
    • Clear aligners are considered a cosmetic dental treatent and is not claimable on private health insurance
    • Braces are fixed and require you to avoid certain foods and adapt special brushing and flossing techniques
    • Braces straighten misaligned teeth and a misaligned bite
    • Patients with complex orthodontic issues may be better suited to braces to achieve a straighter smile and an aligned bite
    • Treatment times for Invisalign and braces are similar

  • Am I Suitable for Treatment?

Invisalign clear aligners may be effective for straightening your teeth and to address these concerns:

    • overbite or open bite
    • crooked teeth
    • crowded teeth
    • gaps in your smile

Our dentists may also be able to correct some underbite and crossbite cases, depending on how much teeth movement is needed. Generally, more complex issues require wearing braces, as these exert more force on the teeth. Your dentist will assess your teeth and bite during a face-to-face examination and confirm whether Invisalign treatment is right for you.

  • Invisalign GO

Invisalign GO uses the same clear aligner sets as Invisalign does, but over a much shorter duration of time, usually between 3 to 6 months instead of 18 months to 3 years.

    • Designed for mild corrections with sets changed every 1 to 2 weeks and a check-up every 6 to 8 weeks
    • More affordable than full Invisalign treatment

Contact our team today to find out if you might be a candidate for Invisalign GO or if you might benefit from an alternative teeth straightening treatment.

    Invisalign GO
  • The Invisalign Process

Invisalign aligners are custom-made for a perfect fit. Each set applies slightly more force than the last to move teeth into alignment.

    • Your dentist takes 3D images of your bite and uses them to design your plan
    • Your custom-made aligners are manufactured at a local dental lab
    • Your first set of aligners are fitted and we explain how to wear and care for them
    • Wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day
    • Receive a new set of aligners every 2 weeks
    • We check your progress every 6 to 8 weeks

Treatment takes between 3 months and 2 years, depending on how much movement is needed and the type of Invisalign system used. When your aligners come out for the last time, we'll recommend you wear a retainer indefinitely to prevent a relapse.

Frequently asked questions

Invisalign Go can offer a shorter treatment time for eligible patients. Teeth straightening with Invisalign Go can often take 3 to 6 months, compared to 6 months to 2 years for standard Invisalign. However, not all orthodontic issues are suitable for Invisalign Go treatment. Our dentists provide both Invisalign and Invisalign Go treatment.

Invisalign prices depend on how many aligners you need, the type of Invisalign aligners you choose and other details. Invisalign treatment at Mount Lawley Dental costs from $6000 to $8000, with interest-free finance options available to help you to manage your payment. We can give you a full price breakdown after we examine your teeth and create your treatment plan.

We understand that it can be tempting to choose online clear aligners to straighten your teeth, however the oral health risks associated with choosing cheap aligners in the absence of a dentist, far outweigh the cost saving you’d expect to make.

Using DIY clear aligners where treatment would usually bedeemed unsuitable by a dentist in a face-to-face examination, can weaken teeth and cause irreversible damage. We recommend seeing a dentist for a face-to-face examination to avoid any long-term commitment to orthodontic treatment in the future.

Teeth straightening is a precise process that needs the expertise of a qualified professional to carefully plan and monitor your results. Our dentists have the relevant training and experience to assess your suitability for clear aligner treatment in a face-to-face comprehensive examination and identify any problems that may need addressing prior to treatment. Only then can Invisalign treatment be planned for your desired outcome.

Many Australian and New Zealand health authorities have issued consumer warnings against the dangers of using online companies for dental treatment in the absence of a physical visit. The president of the Australian Dental Association NSW explains “If treatment relies on imprints and records without the patient being personally examined, there’s a much greater risk that the treatment will not be successful."

This is a common disadvantage of many online aligner treatments, where teeth and gums are not comprehensively examined by a dentist or orthodontist in person. Another reason to see a dentist face-to-face is so they can continue to physically check your progress along the way and ensure aligner sets are being changed when needed.
