Veneers

One of our most popular cosmetic dental treatments, discover what veneers can do for you.

  • Veneers for a Perfect Smile

If you’re searching for that perfect smile, dental veneers are one of the most effective cosmetic treatments available. Veneers are made of thin shells of porcelain or composite resin which is layered and bonded to the front surface of the tooth to mask stained, chipped or misshapen teeth.

Veneers allow you to enjoy a brighter, straighter set of pearly whites, in as little as one or two visits. So, if you’ve been covering up your smile due to crooked or misaligned teeth, discover what veneers can do for you. Call Mount Lawley Dental for your consult on (08) 9227 8777 or book online.

  • What Are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells or coatings applied to each tooth, to mask minor flaws like discoloured, crooked or gapped teeth.

Custom-made for your smile, veneers can be bonded directly onto your teeth using composite resin (a mix of glass and powdered plastic) or custom made in a lab using porcelain (ceramic), and when designed by an experienced dentist, will appear natural and long-lasting.

You can choose the shape, size and colour you prefer for your veneers. So even if you want a slight adjustment to correct chipped or worn-down teeth, or you’re wanting a complete smile makeover, veneers may be an effective cosmetic solution.

  • Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers have a range of advantages over composite:

    • Porcelain has a translucent quality that reflects light the same way natural teeth do
    • Porcelain requires little preparation (and sometimes none) allowing us to preserve your tooth enamel
    • Porcelain can last between 12-15 years
    • Porcelain does not stain
    • Porcelain veneers are designed by your dentist and hand-crafted by a ceramist in a dental lab

As an aesthetically superior option, porcelain veneers cost more than composite veneers, but are far more durable and long-lasting. If porcelain veneers become chipped, it may be possible to repair them rather than replacing the entire veneer.

  • Porcelain Veneers Treatment Process

    • Consultation and treatment planning – Discuss treatment goals and process, take diagnostic scans and present your treatment plan.
    • Design and trial smile – Digital impressions are used to create a wax-up or 'trial smile' which is tried over your teeth. Your dentist records any adjustments before teeth are minimally prepared and you are fitted with temporary veneers to go home.
    • Fabricating your veneers - A ceramist hand-crafts your veneers in a dental lab. Turnaround time is usually between 2-3 weeks.
    • Fitting your veneers - Once your veneers return from the dental lab, your dentist glues them into place.
    • Maintaining your new smile - Your dentist explains how to care for your new veneers to help them last as long as possible.

Composite resin veneers have a numer of pros and cons worth considering:

    • Composite veneers can often be repaired if they become damaged
    • Composite appears less natural than porcelain
    • Composite is prone to staining
    • Composite is less durable than porcelain
    • Composite may last between 5-6 years on average

Frequently asked questions

When compared to composite resin veneers, porcelain veneers offer many benefits such as:

  • Porcelain has a translucent quality that mimics the natural shade of tooth enamel
  • Porcelain does not stain
  • Porcelain lasts longer than composite (12-15 years vs 5 to6 years)
  • Porcelain is often more durable than composite

Composite veneers may last between 5 to 6 years on average. You can help your composite veneers to last as long as possible by following a good oral hygiene routine and avoiding food and drinks that can stain or damage the composite.

Porcelain veneers may last between 12 to 15 years on average, when well cared for.

Veneers are suitable for most people with healthy teeth and gums. It is best to speak with your dentist about your suitability if you have sensitive teeth or very thin enamel. Before any cosmetic dental treatment is started, we make sure any oral health problems such as tooth decay or gum disease is treated and under control, as these conditions affect treatment success.

The cost of veneers depends on their size, the number of veneers you have and what material they're made from. Porcelain veneers often cover the upper front teeth and depending on how wide your smile is, you may choose from 6, 8 or 10 veneers. While composite veneers are made of a composite resin (a mix of plastic and powdered glass), porcelain is made from either pure glass or glass-ceramic.

Porcelain is an aesthetically superior option to composite, more durable and long-lasting, however they do cost more than composite veneers. At Mount Lawley Dental, veneers start from $500 per tooth (composite resin) and from $1560 per tooth (porcelain).

Dental veneers are thin coverings that are applied to teeth to change their appearance. They are made from either porcelain or composite resin and can cover up imperfections such as teeth stains and discolouration, minor damage or misalignment and small gaps.
