If you’re nervous about your dental treatment, we offer a range of sedation dentistry options at Mount Lawley Dental. Talk to our team to find out more.
Contact UsWe know that some people feel nervous about visiting the dentist and need a little help to feel calm. Our compassionate dentists at Mount Lawley Dental can suggest a number of strategies to help ease dental anxiety, including a range of sedation options.
We use local anaesthesia as standard for pain-free dentistry, but we may also discuss sedation dentistry services such as oral sedation, intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia if you’re having a more complex or surgical procedure. Get in touch today so we can discuss your sedation options and assess your medical suitability.
Call UsOral sedatives are self-administered in the form of tablets or liquid. The sedative could help you to feel calm and relaxed during your treatment, while still being conscious and able to respond to your dentist.
We can provide oral sedation after checking your medical history to make sure you’re suitable. It should be taken around one hour before your treatment, as it can take this long to take effect. As the sedatives can affect response times, you should not drive yourself to or from the dental clinic.
Call UsIntravenous sedation may be recommended if you’re having a more complex treatment or multiple procedures, and only if you are medically suitable. IV sedation is also known as sleep dentistry, as the sedatives put you into a sleep-like state during your treatment. You will be woken up after your treatment is complete and will have no recollection the procedure.
IV sedation at Mount Lawley Dental is administered by a qualified anaesthetist who will monitor you throughout your treatment and adjust the level of sedation as needed. This sleep dentistry option involves a separate anaesthetist cost. You should avoid driving for up to 24 hours after having IV sedation.
Call UsFor more complex procedures, such as placing multiple dental implants or extracting multiple wisdom teeth, we may suggest general anaesthesia. This involves the injection of strong sedatives that will make you unconscious for the duration of your treatment. It can take up to 48 hours for general anaesthesia to leave your system, so you should avoid driving and take it easy after your procedure.
If you would like treatment under general anaesthesia, we will first assess your suitability and then arrange for your procedure to be provided at Southbank Day Surgery in South Perth. This will involve additional anaesthetist and hospital fees.
